Each fall, a sophomore level mechanical engineering class is given a challenge: In six weeks, produce a robot that does “something interesting.” The robots are put on display for one-day only in early December, and several members of The Green Machine were able to attend the public show at the University of Minnesota. About 200 students designed, programmed and built the robots themselves and then had to present them to their peers, parents, judges, and the general public. The course is taught by Professor Will Durfee, Professor and Director of Design Education, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and a long-time Minnesota FIRST volunteer.
