February 21 loomed large on our calendar for six weeks now, and it was a day that we looked forward to with a mixture of glad (we could get more sleep!) and sad (have to say goodbye to Zephyr until Duluth). But, making us feel better that our 2012 build was coming to an end, the mayor of Edina, James Hovland, came to help us say a happy goodbye to our precious Zephyr, who is complete and operational. Not only that, but on this very special of Tuesdays, the Green Machine got to show off Zephyr to the mayor; Dr. Bruce Locklear, our Edina High School principal, and Mr. Steve Buettner, director of the Edina School District’s media and technology department. We made final touches on the robot and tested out her programming for a little bit before we sent her down to the workshop for the bag-and-tag. Mayor Hovland and Dr. Locklear were impressed by Zephyr and enjoyed hearing about all she has to offer to play this year’s game, Rebound Rumble.
To help us get through the next week or so before the Lake Superior Regional, FRC Team 1816 is appearing at The Works for the annual Tech Fest. No, we can’t bring Zephyr, but we will have Zeebo, our 2011 Robot, available to meet and greet visitors to The Works new location in Bloomington. Come see us and give a high five to Zeebo!
