Edina Robotics is pleased to welcome the Roseville office of Symantec Corp. as a new sponsor for the 2013-14 FIRST Robotics Competition season! In August, The Green Machine was welcomed by the company at Symantec’s annual corporate picnic. The Team was introduced to Symantec by Lucas Anderson, a Symantec employee and one of 1816’s dedicated robot-programming mentors. At the picnic, a robot demonstration was set up right outside the company’s main entrance.
Several team members put our 2013 robot, Zed, through its usual Frisbee throwing moves and also gave a first-hand look at how a FIRST team trouble-shoots problems with its robot. Many Symantec employees stopped and asked questions about everything from the type of drive train to the language/s used to program the robot. Our Stratasys 3D-printed augers also attracted a lot of admiring looks. 2010 Team alumnus Matt Hornung, now majoring in computer engineering at the University of Minnesota and summer intern at Symantec, stopped by to check out our robot. We are thrilled to welcome Symantec to our Team as a new sponsor this year and look forward to a successful year together.
