Four representatives from The Green Machine will be in Pittsburgh for the national Out in STEM (oSTEM)conference November 13 – 15 to present on “How to Advocate for Greater Diversity in STEM.” This appearance is by invitation of the oSTEM organization. While 1816 was at the RUSH-27 hosted National Advocacy Conference in June, the OSTEM organization tweeted 1816 to present about our Team’s advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill as well as locally within Edina and Minnesota. Our proposal for this presentation was accepted, and we are honored to be one of the only high school groups accepted to present. oSTEM is dedicated to encouraging leadership in STEM for the LGBTQ+ community; learning how to advocate effectively for diversity in STEM is an important topic at the conference.
The Green Machine will also be visiting FIRST Team 3504, Girls of Steel, based at Carnegie Mellon University. Our trip to Pittsburgh will be a chance for both of our teams to compare notes on how other FIRST teams operate. While we’re there, we’ll also get to visit CMU’s nationally recognized Robotics Institute. With both this and the chance to spread our advocacy knowledge to a national audience, 1816 thanks Out in STEM for this amazing opportunity!
