With findings showing that the US needs to produce over 1 million STEM workers by 2022 to remain globally competitive, the job market for STEM is rapidly expanding. On Monday, November 2nd, Team 1816 hosted an event to showcase careers in these fields. Our Team’s third annual STEM Career Night included presentations, followed by a career fair. All four of our presenters, despite being grouped under a general topic of STEM, hold vastly different professions, from a PLTW teacher at Edina High School to a 3M lead research specialist. Each of our presenters shared personal stories about their “path to STEM” to an audience of the younger generation. Many Team sponsors and mentors also ran tables at the career fair, where they talked to attendees about their various STEM professions. We hope that this event helped inform and inspire younger visitors as they move toward higher education and ultimately, a career in the many different STEM fields.
