It’s down to hours now before FIRST Team 1816-The Green Machine will take part in Minnesota’s Lake Superior Regional. Starting with practice rounds on Thursday, March 8th, the competition continues through Saturday March 10th. With 65 teams competing from Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin it should be quite a big turn-out in the pits and in the stands. We are, of course, very excited about seeing exactly what our 2012 robot Zephyr can do and what the other robots are capable of doing with the game Rebound Rumble. At the mid February Scrimmage at Eagan, we saw only a tiny bit of what Zephyr can do – one of which was to nail the basket from 40 feet away – but it also showed us what needed to be fixed. For certain, we believe Zephyr will be in great shape to compete this weekend.

Everyone is excited about going to Duluth, but I think especially us rookies are both really excited and maybe a bit anxious about what lies ahead. We got a taste of what it was like at the practice competition at the Eagan Scrimmage, but I have a feeling the real competition will be much busier. The rookies have been told that not only will we be helping out our team, but it is expected that we will help other FRC teams as well. As a rookie myself, I cannot wait to see all of the people and robots that will be at the DECC with us. Good luck to all the teams attending the Lake Superior Regionals and watch out for Zephyr!
